Press statement by Wanita MCA National Chairman Datuk Heng Seai Kie
Baling MP must not bring Parliament into disrepute with racial slurs
Wanita MCA lauds the instruction by the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia that Baling MP Dato’ Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim must retract his “balik tongsan” slur hurled at DAP - Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament Jimmy Wong.

Such unsavoury language and racist undertones are unbecoming of a lawmaker, much less from the ruling coalition. It belongs to the bygone era of colonialism and does not help at all towards fostering societal harmony, friendship and trust as yearned in the ideals of 1Malaysia.

All Malaysian Chinese are Malaysian citizens. This is where our patriotism and loyalty towards our nation may never be questioned nor shaken. For generations, Malaysian Chinese have contributed immensely towards our nation’s Independence, security and defence of our sovereignty, health services, political, economic, education, and social development and will continue to do so.

The order by Tan Sri Pandikar also indicates his neutral stance as the august House’s speaker, his ruling was made after DAP Parliamentary whip Antony Loke’s pointed out that Abdul Azeez’s slur was in violation of the Parliament’s Standing Order.

The Dewan Rakyat is for elected legislators to engage in intellectual debate on government policies and Acts for the progress of our country. Unless any MP is lacking in intellectual ability and only knows how to utter rhetoric or profanities, they should not lower the chamber’s dignity with prejudiced, racist retorts which will neither help BN to boost our vote count.

The Baling MP should apologise to all Malaysians and not only the Chinese community. Perhaps he could enlighten Malaysians as to how he has contributed towards the well-being of all Malaysians.
